An Indian kid in the swim class in the lane next to me

while I was lap swimming was doing the butterfly stroke and was launching himself out of the water with every stroke. I've only personally seen one person do that--it was a friend/co-worker of my dad's who was a Scoutmaster for an inner-city Troop which I helped him with at summer camp.
So I am curious how this kid is doing the butterfly and propelling himself half out of the water with each stroke. As I swim past him, I catch out of the corner of my eye he is planting his feet on the bottom and pushing off with his legs on each stroke.
Since he was bigger than all the other kids in the class, he was the only one who could stand on the bottom in the lane's deep end and have an unfair advantage over the other kids.
I shall henceforth refer to him as Little Ace.
