paid $1.5M to come here that there is no way on earth he wouldn't start.

This happens in the pros all the time. Once they are paid they are paid. It is then up to the coach to detemrine who gives the team the best shot at winning that particular game.

The salaries, NIL, etc...all of that goes out the window as it is already paid.
