said race could not be the determining factor in college admissions. It was unanimous and the ruling overturned what had been occurring in practice. The court didn't say DEI programs were illegal, but eliminated the race based foundation, upon which their implementation depended. You can have DEI programs. You can't use race to determine outcomes. So, in effect DEI programs were disarmed. This is the nature of the Roberts court rulings. They are typically narrow until better cases come up to expand rulings. You can pretend all you want that DEI is still DEI, but it isn't.
