They believe money now is better than potential money later. In some degree it's correct because in reality, how many truly career ending injuries happen? Risk v instant reward.

Although admittedly I don't know the specifics of the dispute here, if he gets injured as a rookie on a bad NFL rookie contract, is that worse or better?
