I disagree with your interpretation as well regarding young people wanting the world to be given to them. I think the young are full of ideals - which is what liberals are for the most part, idealists. And once older you know a bit more about how the world works and that brings on a more conservative view. It has nothing to do - imho - with "randos wanting what is yours". It is that ready adoption of ideas is not wise. And as we learn from Ecclesiastes there is nothing new under the sun.
