have let this bill fail.
My hope is that they carefully counted votes and realized how many and precisely who could stray off the reservation. The rationale for that was to make a point, not to kill the bill.
I hope.
If that is the case, I wholeheartedly approve. The bill is good, but not perfect. The imperfections are not insignificant. They need to be acknowledged and addressed. And by shining a light on the weaknesses in the bill, those weaknesses can be strengthened.
I said yesterday I have a great deal of respect for Rand Paul, and some of the others. I hope that he and the others were not stupid enough to take this bill down. This bill was too important to the momentum behind the administration and the direction in which the country is going.
As long as the administration addresses more spending cuts, the irritation caused by a small part of the Republicans will be well worth it.
The choice here was not a good bill versus a perfect bill, the choice was a good bill versus no bill at all.
And with choice number two, after passing the good bill, they could pass additional bills, more legislation and fine-tune many of the things that were imperfections in the bill they just passed.
