When my mother-in-law worked at Spann's Hallmark, she was well aware of the number of armed robberies which happened in Brookside, and that was 30 years ago. The merchant's association was able to keep the crime out of the news.

Same thing with The Plaza.

Social media meant the news could no longer suppress crime stories and had to address them.
