1. I thought the call of obstruction on Texas at second base was incorrect. The throw from the catcher led the fielder very slightly into the base line. The fielder clearly had the ball well before the runner arrived. Though I believe it was the wrong way to call that play, technically it could be correct. The replay official overruled the field umpire.
2. Texas Tech pitcher Canady was trying to intentionally walk Texas’s best hitter with runners on second and third and 2 outs in the 6th inning. Her pitches were way to close to the strike zone. With a 3-0 count the hitter swung at a barely outside pitch and hit a 2 run single past the shortstop. The catcher was standing during the walk attempt, but did not move far enough for a safe target for the pitcher to aim at. I believe in hindsight the coach is probably kicking himself for not going out to discuss the proper way to intentionally walk a batter. 2-1 Texas won the game.
3. Texas Tech was batting in the bottom of the 7th. A runner on first, 1 out, and a 3-2 count on the batter. The base runner took off on the pitch, and the umpire called strike 3 on a pitch me and the hitter clearly thought was ball 4. The runner was safe at second base, but the umpire at the plate interfered with the catchers attempt to throw. The runner had to return to first base.
It was a good game. Just decided by some close calls and poor execution. I think Texas Tech could still win the series in 3 games. Texas has an outstanding pitcher too.
