but was the animating force within a body. It was in Greek philosophy, from Plato’s writings that the soul was immaterial, immortal and existed apart from the body. This belief spread into 2nd temple period Judaic and later Christian thought through Hellenization.
Scriptures like Matthew 10:28 are often interpreted to support dualistic nature of humans, but others who reject Greek dualism, interpret it to mean that while man can end human life, that God has ultimate authority, so God should be feared over man.
