I thought at one point district judges rulings only related to their district? When did this change? Was this something the Supreme Court authorized?

I know some people want to get rid of these, which would be completely stupid and take out a complete history of precedence and the appeals process that is well established.

To take everything straight to the Supreme Court would make a slow process even slower.
