President Trump has taken significant steps to increase U.S. oil production, aiming to reduce gasoline prices that rose during President Biden’s restriction of oil production.
In fact, President Trump signed several executive orders to boost U.S. oil and gas production. These orders declared a national energy emergency, removed regulatory barriers, and expedited permitting for energy projects. Notably, they lifted restrictions on oil and gas production in Alaska, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and ended the pause on liquefied natural gas (LNG) export approvals . The lifting of restrictions will address Biden depleting our National Emergency Oil Reserves.
Additionally, in February 2025, Trump established the National Energy Dominance Council to advise on strategies for achieving energy dominance by improving permitting processes and enhancing private sector investments .
Impact on Gasoline Prices
Following these policy changes, oil prices have declined. As of May 28, 2025, crude oil is priced at $62 per barrel, down from $80 in January. This decrease has led to lower gasoline prices, providing some economic relief to consumers .
