ignorant. Russia didn't border any Nato member countries until the tiny Baltic nations joined in 2004. Poland, which borders Belorussia joined in 1999. Russia complained bitterly when the first former Warsaw Pact countries joined Nato and they have never reversed their opposition. The Ukraine is almost the size of Texas and its location is strategically important to the security of Russian. The Baltic states are of little relative importance and they have zero hope to defend themselves should Russia decide to reclaim them.
