I met and got acquainted with Charles, a white Afrikaner refugee from SA back in the 90s. In SA they were farmers or Boers and they owned the land. In addition, he was a chiropractor with his own practice and his wife was a surgical nurse. The couple had gained immigration status to the U.S. due to his wife's occupation and they settled in Kansas City. Charles said he was not allowed to practice as a chiropractor, because his credentials didn't meet U.S. requirements. He told me that after the national government of SA collapsed in the mid-90s the ANC came into power. According to Charles, armed gangs of rampaging blacks traveled throughout the countryside terrorizing Boer families. They robbed farmers of their machinery, tools, livestock and anything they could drive or carry away. He said many farmers lost their lives trying to defend their farms from ANC terrorist bands. When the ANC government announced they intended to confiscate farmland from white Boers and grant it to black farmers he said they decided to get out.
