The Church isn't a charitable organization; charity (caritas) is a core product of its mission. The Church exists to preach the Gospel, administer the sacraments, and lead its members to Heaven. If it does those things well, its members will engage in the charitable works needed around them.
What the hell good will selling the Sistine Chapel do? Or Chartres Cathedral? Or art collections? Give that money to the poor and then what? You'll still have the poor, and a lesser Church. The Sistine Chapel, Chartres Cathedral, sacred art, etc. etc. inspire Christians to think and act towards the things above and away from things of the Earth.
