importers, and only indirectly by the consumers. Some or all of the tariffs will likely be eaten by the importers or the exporters.
2. Whatever any price increases are that are passed on are not automatically paid by the consumer... for instance, if local producers were 1% or 3% or 5% higher than the original price for that which was imported, they may pay a little more for the local produce, but only the difference between what they would have paid and what they actually purchase now.
3. Local producers will now make more profits and have more money in their pockets. They may be purchasing more goods from their neighbors, whether that be at a local diner, car, truck or tractor dealer or whatever, but they may also likely be hiring more people to work for them & may be purchasing more lumber, barbed wire, hiring other contractors to expand barns, homes etc.
The extra money will be circulating around town.
There is a reason that many in the middle class have been complaining that they have had a lower standard of living since all of the trade agreements... which favored the producers in other countries, sometimes far more than in the US.
