throughout the war. We firmly chose the side of communism during the war, although we imported a lot of NAZI scientists and engineers after the war. I saw a fascinating video recently about one aspect of it that involved the US sending fighters to Russia using American pilots for part of the journey from the Continental US to Alaska and then Russian pilots flew the planes to Siberia and eventually on to the Eastern front to fight the Germans. There were Russian pilots and crew stationed at US airbase (or bases) in Alaska. They worked alongside Americans on this project and socialized with them as you would naturally do, albeit somewhat socially awkwardly due to language and cultural differences. Suffice to say they all drank pretty heavily.
I've always been fascinated by WWII and have read a lot about it, but this was an undiscovered story for me until recently.
