The claim that Stacey Abrams personally received $2 billion in taxpayer funds is false. However, a $2 billion grant was awarded to a coalition of nonprofit organizations, including one with which Abrams had a prior association.
In April 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $2 billion to Power Forward Communities, a coalition formed by five nonprofit organizations, including Rewiring America, where Abrams served as senior counsel until the end of 2024. This grant, part of the Inflation Reduction Act's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, was intended to support clean energy projects, such as installing energy-efficient appliances and weatherization in low-income communities .
While Abrams was associated with Rewiring America during the formation of Power Forward Communities, there is no evidence she directly received any funds from the grant or had a leadership role in the coalition. The CEO of Power Forward Communities stated that Abrams was not paid by the organization and did not have a role beyond her work at Rewiring America
