Gates has too many players on the team and doesn't give enough time to talented freshmen
I don't see how in this era you want to recruit more than two freshmen per year. And they need to be worthy of putting on the floor a minimum of 10 minutes per game and ideally more.
Otherwise, you will lose them.
Gates has been filling the roster with too many 7th man type players. That is not worth sharing those minutes. He needs a top 7, 8 at most plus two freshmen. The walk ons can fill out the practice needs. More PT/player will attract better transfers
