It would be interesting to know what role NIL is playing in separating schools from each other. Or is it simply recruiting and coaching and facilities. I assume Okie softball has gotten to be a big enough thing in Norman, coupled with being in Okie City and not comparatively tiny COMO, for example, that they have way more NIL resources that go to maintain their softball status.
That being said, it’s hard to believe MS State and Starkville are kicking MU’s rear with more resources. Or Southern Illinois. Although other than volleyball, Miss State has way better women’s athletics than Mizzou. Once you get past volleyball and gymnastics, don’t see a lot to love in MU women’s sports.
Gotta say softball seems to be over relying on Missouri/metro talent which just doesn’t seem to match up with the other good programs beyond a couple of players. Her best players have been from Iowa, New York and Colorado. And EE’s girl from CA, if I remember right. LA may need more of a recruiting budget to get out of Missouri and go where the best talent resides. She’s starting to look like Pingeton and relying too much on locals that don’t look to have SEC talent. And then her recruiting led to a pretty young team too that frankly wasn’t ready so maybe that is more the problem but I just don’t see big things developing either based on the mild progress any of the vets have made through their career beyond Crenshaw showing offensively this year. And she strikes me as the type who wants to get better on her own as she’s a battler.
