America First = doing what is best for American citizens

In my opinion, in this case his goal is to improve the the lives and economic situation of the American citizens in several ways through these tariffs:

* make trade with other nations more fair
* reduce or eliminate trade imbalances with other nations, especially where they harm manufacturers in the US and those employed by them
* reduce or eliminate tariffs &/or other restrictions by other countries on the import of products or services provided by American companies or citizens
* protect American citizens' security by ensuring that critical products and services are available from American companies and/or citizens so that we are not overly dependent those supplies and services from other countries
* reduce or eliminate the federal debt and the debt levels of American citizens
* improve job numbers, quality and wages of American citizens
* reduce the tax burden of American citizens
