But I doubt that is what he's saying. Another more colloquial meaning of "owning" would be to dominate them, or to make a fool of them.
For instance, a fan might contend that Missouri "owns" Arkansas in football the last couple of years as an example of the first meaning.
It might be contended that an example of the latter might be the way Trump & Vance "owned" Zelenski in their heated exchanges. That doesn't mean that the person felt Trump bought a slave named Zelenski.
