as is battalion and brigade command. If you don't have a successful company command, you don't get promoted to major from captain and you don't attend Command and General Staff College.
If you don't graduate from CGSC, you don't get battalion command and don't get promoted to Colonel and attend the War College and get selected for Brigade command.
If you don't get a Brigade command, you don't make general
