He was accused of being a Nazi sympathizer for wanting America to stay out of WWII. However, he was instrumental in military aircraft design and he recommended modifications that helped our air forces defeat both Germany and Japan. Though he was supposed to be a non-combatant advisor Lindbergh personally flew several combat missions in the South Pacific theater against the Japanese air forces. Lindbergh had been sent to MacArthur's 5th Airforce to serve in an advisory capacity.
