They blame their loss on the collapse of media, and people getting their "misinformation" thru unapproved (aka not progressive) sources.
They have been living a lie for decades, being told that only progressives are fit to rule, and that only their thoughts are acceptable and good.
Since they tend to live in progressive bubbles of unintentional villainy, it's not possible for them conceive of anyone not voting for them.
