I read about this last week. When asked by the DOGE auditors why they continued sending payments to these undocumented/unidentified accounts, treasury officials admitted they didn't know why. They were asked to estimate how much could be cancelled without further verification and they answered, about 50%. That's $50 billion that they could have cut off, had they been doing their due diligence.
