It will work just like basketball. The intent isn't to drive more excitement now, but to keep teams and fans engaged at the end of the season and at the start of the CFP. One thing I do like is that now national press is talking about teams that are ranked from 1-15 vs just the top 5 as in previous years. However, I agree, similar to basketball, at this stage of the tourney, the same teams are typically in the tourney and the drama and excitement is pretty muted for most fans.
They just need to expand to 16, no byes, and be done. This will get discussion continuing for most teams in the top 25-30 as well throughout the season
