They were insane at that time. They thought the Big 10 was some kind of glorified Ivy League. I went to a meeting when Devine was the athletic Director and he made the statement that Missouri wanted to be “the Northwestern of the Big 8” - at the time, Northwestern hadn’t had a winning season for 26 years.It wasn’t “babs” The crazy academic obsession and hatred of athletics came from the top down – the curators. look up Fred Kummer when you have time
