Depending on the school they may "require" their athletes to sign these waivers as a condition of being on the team. None of them would present it to the athletes this way though as that would likely not be legal. Instead they would say here sign this we will protect your information and only release what we think should be released in accordance with our policies.
In effect an athletes information is often only released in accordance with that school s standing policy on such things. They have the athletes sign the waivers just in case they accidentally say too much, it's a CYA thing.
I know KSU is notoriously tight lipped about player injuries and that goes way back to the early Synder years.
