Sure they sometimes form closer bonds especially with players who stay around for 3+ years but generally speaking they see them as employees these days. They treat the program like an at-will state.
If some employee aka player don't want to come to work, they can walk out or be fired (benched) and the next guy up will pick up where they left off.
Thats why its easy to sleep at night, especially resting on the best most comfortable bed money can buy.
