49.91% easily rounds up to 50%.

Won all 7 battleground states.

Electoral vote landslide.

1st republican in 2 decades to win majority of the popular vote.

That's a mandate!

As a comparison, Bill Clinton won 43% of the vote in 1992 and 49.2% in 1996.

Still need the electoral college to remain in place - our Founders knew if it was pure vote totals, it would not only reduce the importance of the individual states to nothing - but would leave the power of choosing a president in the hands of the large urban centers.

Can't see how we can go wrong with such well-run democrat cities as New York, Chicago, LA, San Fran, etc. deciding who our next president is. :-)
