If that is the case, then I am sure Cuban would have known the role he wanted in the new administration, not to just be assigned.
As for your other questions

We shall see exactly what his role is. But with a guy that government has very much affected his business and wealth, to be able to be in parts of it to influence, definitely would pay off for him as well.
I am not sure of Musk's ego vs greed in this role, as I could make an argument for both.
