the simple fact is that, with the probable exception of WWII, the vets, including myself have never really done anything that helped the US or was reason to be engaging somewhere. (VN is a perfect example).

Regardless, it IS important to keep a very strong military today, given the enemies hanging around wanting to destroy something.
