but a side of my family and also my wife's family, as it turns out, both entered Kansas as former western Missouri settlers due to the issues around the Civil War. Missouri made its side known, and our people weren't sticking around for that and moved across the river. The legacy is still alive. Look at KS politics vs Missouri to this day.
It's not that simple, though. Missouri is truly a divided state. The culture in the North and West side of Missouri mostly matches NE Kansas/SW Iowa culture. Southern and SE Missouri might as well be another state from what i've seen.
