I don't understand the hard luck story, can you fill me in?

I know he had health problems and retired at one time due to those. Then he was back as HC not long after the retirement. Not sure why, if he wanted to move from New Mexico, he couldn't have gotten a HC job somewhere or at least a OC job. As it is he is a consultant at Vandy. Not sure what he is getting paid, but could be getting paid as an OC ... seems like he more or less is the OC or close to it.
Not sure of the guy's character or his story at all. I do remember playing MN in the bowl game after he had built the program up ... then the retirement and health issues (heart as I recall)
