from 1992-2000, every team that won the series ranked in the top 5. There are certainly big changes as well.

Also of note are teams that flat out choose to be non-competitive as well (see Sox and Oakland this year).

The biggest problem with MLB is that revenue by team is a huge difference, so instituting a salary cap is no so easy. And the players know overall salary will likely go down as well, so will not go for it.

and now this year you have the stupidity of deferred contracts like with LA.
