There are 3 types of cholesterol that have been identified. HDL is "good cholesterol" LDL is the 'bad cholesterol' and there is a 3rd big 'fluffy' cholesterol molecule that appears to basically be neutral, neither good nor bad.
LDL is usually measured indirectly. The doctors don't like to have the test done to actually separate out the different types and more accurately measure the LDL. It is more expensive & the insurance companies don't want to pay for it.
Studies are coming out showing that the all risk mortality rates for those given statins is worse than those that are given a placebo.
But big pharma doesn't want that getting out & they're fighting it.
