There is a group of people you can lie to about a clearly cognitive diminished president, telling them he is sharp as a tack and driving all decisions, and they will deny their own eyes and common sense and buy it.

This group of people will cast 14 million votes for that candidate, and then the powers that be will simply throw it all away and tell them who they will vote for, and they will do it.

These people will do all of this claiming they are doing it to save democracy.

If that can happen, as it has, there is no surprise about anything at this point. We are that gone.
