I don't necessarily see a problem with 'overseas encrypted

It looks to me like they may be bringing this up multiple times to drum up support for outlawing encrypted accounts.
They have access to all of his accounts. If there are problems that have been exposed, then share that info with the public. If not, shut up about it.
A lot of people have encrypted messaging accounts. No one likes the various agencies in the federal government spying on our emails, texts, phone calls etc. We don't need to be outlawing these types of accounts so that the federal government can observe everything all of its citizens say, do or write/text about, as though we are fish in a fishbowl.
They say "Never let a good crisis go to waste." Don't be sheep & let them use this crisis, whether contrived by them or not, to take away yet more privacy from its citizens.
