Ponzi schemes.
SS should be eliminated and this apology letter should be sent to "beneficiaries":
Dear taxpayer/social security beneficiary:
The US government extends its apology for deceiving you into thinking that Social Security was a retirement insurance/pension program. Because Social Security was really a ploy to steal more of your money to fund warfare and government boondoggles and because the continued existence of Social Security payments is dependent on forcing new investors to pony up money, this ponzi scheme, like all ponzi schemes, has ultimately failed. Our efforts in the past of under-reporting inflation to stiff beneficiaries on their promised payments only swept the inherent problems with this program under the rug. New suggestions to use Chained CPI, to under-report inflation even more, both underscore the problems associated with social security and highlight the fact that its continued existence is dependent on stiffing people even further.
We realize that people have altered their behavior to be dependent on social security payments, and that the transition from receiving these payments will be difficult. Your younger family members will now likely be directly responsible for your ongoing maintenance, although, may we point out, that by stealing 12.6% of current workers' annual income, your younger family members have already been funding your ongoing maintenance and with far less love. Finally, for the younger workers who have been paying into Social Security their entire lives and who will now receive no benefits, we have a couple points. For one, you were not paying into anything, you were being taxed and your money was being transferred to something or someone else; there is no fund of money stored away that was specifically paid into by you. Secondly, you will now keep a greater portion of your earned income and you can use this portion of your income to invest in private retirement funds, which unlike Social Security, should positively grow in size and will not be subjected to constant last ditch tweaks of politics.
Sincerely,
Your oppressive government.
