spoon fed a story by Mark Felt, the second in command at the FBI. Felt had an ax to grind against Nixon when he was passed over when Nixon appointed Ruckelshaus for FBI Dir. Much of the crap Felt told Woodward was nonsense, except for the WH Plumbers operations, which Nixon did not know about. Very little of the entire Watergate scandal had anything to do with Nixon and there was no evidence he knew about any of it until it was published in the papers.
