His students encouraged him to run for House of Rep.

He served on the Committee of Agriculture, Committee of Veteran's Affairs, Armed Services Committee, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

Advocated of legalization of recreational cannabis as Governor of Minnesota

Received an A grade from the NRA, but following Parkland High School shooting, he expressed support for gun regulation and universal background checks and red-flag laws.
