Had he come in and truly worked to be a calming, moderate voice at that point in time the country would like likely responded positively and he could have been seen in glowing terms. He'd have taken hits from both sides at times, but carrying the middle would have served him well. Instead, he went hard left and history will remember his as the guy his own party jettisoned because he was so hopelessly bad.
