Too many politicians go with what the polls or their focus

groups are telling them about people's opinions. But I agree... they have a bully pulpit and can change minds. Many people either don't have all the information or are easily swayed by what they see on TV or social media.
I remember when Reagan was running in the primaries that quite a few people said they liked him better but were voting for a more "centrist" candidate because they thought a centrist would be more electable.
But when Reagan won many voters said that they didn't agree with him on this issue or that issue, but they admired his honesty and the fact that he stuck with his convictions regardless of what the polls said. He didn't change his beliefs based upon which way the poll winds were blowing at any given moment of time.
He doggedly stuck to his convictions and doggedly fought for them, and of course he won in a landslide for his second term.
I think most voters know when politicians are just pandering to whatever the pollsters are telling them the people want and would prefer a man of moral convictions willing to stand up for what he believes is the truth regardless of the polls.
