Lawfare has had some revealing takes on what went on inside the courtroom during the trial, what the jury and those who attended each day saw that others did not.
The trial looked very different in person for all its sliminess and sleaziness. That is what came across day after day. Donald Trump and his people came out looking like slime balls.
The facts are really scummy. The jurors marinated in it every day. They listened to lie after lie after lie by the Trump people. They saw all the social media posts. They listened to denial after denial, all lies. They reviewed the templates for how the Trump people responded to scandals. At first, Hillary was behind it. Then, later on, Biden replaced Hillary as the mastermind.
The jury heard things about the Trump people that were morally worse than the crime charged, how Michael Cohen, on Trump's behalf, used intimidation tactics to help Trump bilk people. The intimidation was directed at vendors, contractors, press people and beauty pageant contestants. Really scummy stuff.
The jury heard how Trump tried to keep Michael Cohen in the fold after his apartment was searched in 2018. The last time Trump talked to Cohen, he was trying to reassure his lawyer, saying things like "don't worry, I'm the President of the United States. Everything is going to be OK. Stay tough. You're going to be OK."
And then came lawyer Robert Costello, who carried on like a godfather, telling Cohen: "Don't worry, you are loved. Sleep well tonight. You have friends in high places."
This is the Republican nominee.
