I have only done Amtrak once

and it was 1992ish, so I have no idea the rules. At that time, the train only went like 60 mph, so it was not really about speed, bur moreso it was easy and convenient. It was nice to be able to walk to different cars, eat lunch in some, play cards or just drink in others. I never recall just pulling over, but would have to stop at stations.

Much better than buses for sure.
