as a Marine MP on a Navy base in Hawaii. He's in his Marine t-shirt when a jeepful of Somoans/sailors pulls up alongside "Hey brudda, wanna beef?" Now he was new to the island and had no idea what a "beef" was, but he looked at the size of the guys and said "no thank you". They said "that's cool, brudda!" and drove off.

He later learned Somoans love to fight. Nothing personal. They'll fight with you and then have a beer with you.
