The DC Metropolitan Police Department says 21 officers hired through the Senior Officer Program, which lets retired officers temporarily return to the force without forgoing retirement benefits, will not have their contracts renewed after this month. Twelve of the officers will not have their contracts extended due to a 2022 D.C. law with a provision barring the department from hiring officers with disciplinary records for serious misconduct at any agency.
