used consistently. The issue was Gates couldn't decide on who to go with. All players need some time to improve. Gates never committed to any of the bigs really. Spotting them here and there was never going to help. He needed to pick one and go all in. As mentioned, Vanover was never going to be an All-American but he definitely could have helped if he had been given a real chance to work into it. Gates never did that.
