... basically the same as Conference Titles were in the 60s.

An 8 team conference in the 60s
a 7 team division in the 2000s.

Whoever is in first place at the end of the regular season is the champ.

Not to take anything away from Devine, but winning a conference title was far easier back then. Less teams, less bluebloods in conference to go up against, no conference title game.

And technically we didn't win the 1960 Big Eight. we lost to kansas (6-0-1) and we went 6-1. It was awarded after the fact, due to a silly forfeit. But it wasn't won on the field.

And for whatever reason, we became basically irrelevant despite the success of Devine.

Whereas, Pinkel's success got us into the premiere conference, with a bright future.

Not saying one is better than the other... just that there is an argument that Pinkel is every bit as important, or even more so than Devine.
