At a former job, they issued a very public report with the "L" missing out of the word public in a very prominent place in the report. Spell check didn't catch it because it is indeed a word, just not the word they wanted to use.
I think there are some modern tools that do a better job of catching stuff like this, but this happened 30 years ago.
No one was fired, but there were a bunch of butts that got chewed.
